Learn essential
English skills...
As a teacher
it is important to understand the English language at many levels. As key
interpreters and facilitators of the learning of English for their students,
teachers are responsible for passing on the intricate details of written and
spoken language forms of English. These may vary because of cultural or
historical influences, but essential aspects remain the same and are often
misunderstood because of an individual’s own backgrounds or experiences. This
professional development activity aims to bridge some of these gaps by
addressing phonemes, phonics and spelling rules in particular and giving
teachers practical strategies
to improve their subject knowledge, their teaching approaches and thereby
influence their students’ outcomes in English.
Add resources and
strategies to influence your students…
Content will address these questions:
What are phonemes and what are phonics?
What part do these attributes of English play in everyday English?
What spelling rules are there and how can we implement the use of these
rules in our teaching and thereby influence our students’ English in written
and spoken forms?
Practical activity and discussion will develop the pedagogical
standards of each participant.
